Fenrirs could not swim

“Grau!”

“Grau-grau! Grrrr…!”

“They drowned!?”

“Can fenrirs not swim?”

“…Well, Sherry was not able to… are they alright?”

After looking at each other, the fenrirs jumped into the river.

It was deep enough that humans would have to swim.

Someone as large as Leo would be able to keep their head above water while standing, but fenrirs were smaller… And so they were currently splashing around as if they were drowning.

Uh…should we try to help them?

“…Leo?”

“Wuff. Wuff-wuff.”

Though, given their size, it would be quite difficult to help them.

If I jumped into the water, I would probably just end up drowning myself.

And so I asked Leo, but she said it would be fine, and we should just watch.

Sherry watched her struggling parents and barked as if to cheer them on.

The fenrirs must have heard her, as they seemed to calm down after that.

And then, with bits of their back and head out of the water, they started to move slowly towards us. 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙖𝒔𝒕.𝒄𝙤𝒎

Still, it seemed like they could not hold their breath for long, and constantly moved their heads up and down…it was somewhere between the doggy paddle and drowning.

Hmm… Well, though they were struggling, they were not in danger, at least…

We had all been quite nervous about the fenrirs at first, but that was long in the past now…

Even Ms. Claire looked a little surprised.

After some time, the fenrirs finally reached the other side, and spat out the water they had swallowed, and shook off the water from their fur.

While we were far enough that we did not get drenched, the water still flew quite far.

Still…it wasn’t as bad as when Leo did it.

Sherry rushed towards the two fenrirs and barked.

While I could only see from behind, it was clear that she was happy to be reunited with them.

Then the fenrir with an especially imposing face, began to lick Sherry and press its face towards her.

They were also happy and seemed quite relieved.

I suppose that one was angry that Sherry had gone off on her own again.

As Sherry barked apologetically, the other fenrir barked as if to say it was in the past.

Probably, the one licking Sherry was the father, and the angry one was the mother.

“Kyain!”

“Kyaun!”

“Kyu?”

As I watched the reunion, which somehow didn’t feel entirely harmonious, Leo suddenly let out a howl.

It seemed like she wanted them to greet her. But I understood why they would be more concerned with Sherry.

The two fenrirs looked surprised, and let out a yelp.

Sherry looked at them with a puzzled expression.

“Kyaun-kyaun!”

“Kyain-kyain!”

“Kyu…”

The two fenrirs then rushed towards Leo, and while totally ignoring us, turned over and showed their bellies.

It was that submissive pose that dogs did?

Leo used to do it when I got mad at her…

But these were wild fenrirs, and I suppose it was natural for them, as they knew that they could not beat Leo.

“Wou. …Wuff?”

“Huh? Me?”

“Wuff-wuff.”

“…Fine.”

“You’ll be okay, papa!”

“Well, I’ll try then.”

Apparently, she wanted me to rub their bellies… Would it really be fine?

They showed no signs of going against Leo, so they probably wouldn’t attack…

And so I started to walk towards them.

Liza was cheering for me. But I felt a little conflicted, since she was still telling me to go to some fenrirs…

Still, I wanted to look brave in front of her, so I had to do my best.

Sherry stood still as she watched, and Ms. Claire seemed to be holding her breath.

Behind her, Ms. Anne was watching with a jealous expression. But I ignored her.
